ERRORS & CURIOSITIES

ERROR / VARIETY
I don't know if this text was a design error from an early printing which
was quickly corrected (which should make it a "variety", rather than an
"error"), or if the text was simply not printed on some cards due to an
inking problem on one of the lithographic stones or perhaps a mistake
that allowed a sheet of the cards to bypass a step in the printing
process. This variety/error was found on a card with the "back.

#63 - Central Africa
||I've acquired one of these cards with an incorrect "No.
68" on the reverse. Additionally, the text on the
reverse is printed in the opposite orientation to what is normally
found on cards in this series. That is to say, the front top edge of
the card is aligned with the back right edge, instead of the back left
edge. Also, as can be seen in the scan, below, the text is
significantly misaligned. This error was found on a card with the " " punctuation variety on the back.
It seems probable that at least one of the larger press sheets on which
these cards were originally printed (and which likely had multiple designs on each
sheet) was reversed between the front and back printing.
#66 - Bolivia
||I've acquired one of these cards which has an
unprinted, blank back. All other aspects of this card seem to be
consistent with a normal card: color, size, thickness, etc. The
positioning of the copyright text is consistent with that found on
cards with the "back.
